Jenny & Jack
Elizabeth Gaskell’s House Wedding
Jenny & Jack’s wedding was so incredibly lovely to be a part of. From the moment I met Jenny’s family in the morning at The Midland Hotel I felt welcomed!
Their shared love of history and literature made Elizabeth Gaskell’s House the perfect wedding venue for Jenny & Jack. The house has so many amazing old features like the old study which is the perfect backdrop for a couple of book lovers!
I loved Jenny’s beautifully embroidered Needle and Thread dress and how it fitted the whole period romance novel vibe of the day.
Thank you all for being so lovely and it was such a joy to be a part of your day. I hope you have an amazing time at the Hay Literature Festival for your honeymoon!
How did you two meet?: We met on a dating app, Bumble. Jack suggested a pub in the city centre for our first date but that evening it was rammed with office work men so we went to Cosy Club and played scrabbled with a pitcher of cocktails instead. Much better! I think that has set the tone for us since then - quiet, relaxed and just enjoying each other's company.
We've since been on some lovely trips together to Porto, Vienna, the pacific northwest of Canada and the USA and managed to survive COVID together and bought a house in Urmston near both of our parents.
Describe the proposal!: We were on a lockdown walk around a local ex-golf course and sat on a mound for a break. We got talking about the future, and getting married. Jack ended up daring me to ask him to marry him. I did, and he said yes! But then we couldn't decide if it was real or not. So we had a symbolic bottle of prosecco that we brought downstairs to put in the fridge to break the news to my parents - in the end we decided to keep the symbolic bottle in the fridge and go ahead and make it real to them!
What is special about your venue?: We both love history, and books - we read quite a bit and we love to explore historical places and entertain ourselves with Jane Austen, the Bronte’s and Bridgerton (not sure if that last one counts). So the Elizabeth Gaskell house being such a meaningful place to the history of Manchester and literature in a period we are fascinated with makes it a truly special place for us to make such an important dedication to one another, and make happy memories with our friends and family.
Any details of note about your big day?: We're including old bound books in our table decorations, and for our honeymoon we'll be off to the Hay Literature festival to keep the theme going.
