Owen House Barn Wedding
Holly & Greg’s wedding in Mobberley, Cheshire
I absolutely loved photographing the Ruxton-Farrow wedding at Owen House Wedding Barn.
It was my first time at Owen House and I am completely in love with the quirkiness of this venue! Holly & Greg added their own touches to the barn with plenty of colourful DIY-decor, including this amazing light installation and neon sign that Greg made himself!
Lovely to work with tea4two, Make-up by Sadie Megan Winton Hairdressing, amazing burgers by Vanilla in Allseasons , beautiful blooms by Amore Flowers Widnes, evening entertainment by Twisted Tubes. Holly's dress is by Heidi Hudson, Greg's suit is from Marc Darcy
A few words from Holly & Greg about their day at Owen House Wedding Barn:
”How did you two meet?: Greg is originally from Bolton and played Ice Hockey but he moved teams to Widnes Wild Ice Hockey. My brother was manager of the Ice Rink and invited me down to visit the rink and watch the first ice hockey game. Greg seen me but didn't talk to me... he decided to just send me messages on Facebook instead! We started to talk as he came across really lovely. Me and my friends enjoyed the ice hockey so carried on going to watch so I'd talk and see Greg more. He asked me on our first date and I turned up with my friend and knew he was lovely because he didn't run off when my friend turned up with me!
Describe the proposal!: Greg surprised me with a trip to Iceland which was so lovely. We seen the northern lights, we went to lagoons but Greg was planning on proposing at the waterfalls so we had a hire car to get there but we didn't know that in Iceland you had to check certain roads are safe to drive on, we assumed they've be closed like in the UK. We set off and it was a picturesque view with no other cars around and just snowy mountains and hills everywhere. Unlucky for us, we had travelled very far down a road that was classed as out of bounds due to the amount of snow on the road. We started to realise the snow was getting far too thick to drive through so when we were about to turn around some how, we hit a metal post in the road that was hidden under the snow and we bust two tyres. We had to call to get collected and little did I know that whilst we were waiting, Greg was thinking how he was going to propose now. On our last day, Greg proposed in the comfort and warmth of the hotel room and then explained to me he was planning to propose at the waterfalls before everything went wrong!
What is special about your venue?: We had seen the photos of Owen House Wedding Barn before visiting and we knew we loved it but wanted to keep options open and not rush. We went to see one other venue and within seconds we knew that we just had to get married at Owen House. The character, the setting and the layout is fantastic but you can truly see how much effort has gone into he venue to make it perfect. We love the little quirks that are scattered around the venue and how everything has been done to a perfect standard. The whole venue just has a laid back vibe which we wanted and there are so many little areas to the place so no one could feel overwhelmed or claustrophobic. Its great that Dan and Vanessa are so creative and they don't limit your creativity either - I love how they encourage people to decorate their venue to their own tastes so each wedding looks individual too.
Any details of note about your big day?: We haven't ever had a theme for the wedding or set colours. I just go with the flow and what we like - we go for and somehow we just trust it will all come together. We're doing all the decorating the day of the wedding as we get married in the afternoon. Greg is making a light for above the top table and a neon sign whilst I decorate all the tables and ceremony room. I have made a large macrame hanging for a backdrop behind the cake and I have made centrepieces for the tables and top table.”
